Celebrate Our Blessings
October 25, 2011
Dear Blessed Member of CPC:
Every life is filled with a combination of challenges and blessings.
We all have many challenges. Most of us live in houses that are worth less than our mortgages. Investments have lost value. Our job future is uncertain. The garbage disposal is broken. The kids don’t call as often as we’d like. The bad knee is flaring up again. And there is a general malaise covering the nightly news.
But Blessings? Blessings are in abundance – more than we can count. Our health, our friends, our families, our church, the opportunity to serve others, the nation in which we live. Our Blessings fill every aspect of our life and are so numerous that we may take them for granted. But common or not, they are all true Blessings from God.
Just as people have blessings and challenges, so do churches. The past several years have been difficult ones at Christ Presbyterian Church; we all know the issues and problems and it would be easy to focus on them.
But our church also has been richly blessed, and each of us shares in those blessings. We have a wonderful congregation, excellent programs for a wide variety of interest, a dedicated staff, and a worship environment where the liturgy, the music, and the sermon raise our spirits and deepen our faith and love for Jesus every week. We have pastoral care when we are sick and are given the opportunity of service to others.
This stewardship season, we are called to Celebrate Our Blessings. Set aside, or at least put in perspective, our trials and tribulations and focus on Blessings. Think about them; write them down; celebrate them.
Here is a Blessings Card for your refrigerator. For the next several weeks, do this at the end of
every day:
First, spend a moment reflecting on all the ways that God Blessed you this day. Maybe you were
able to catch up with an old friend. Maybe you met a new friend. Maybe you found your morning
devotional particularly meaningful. Maybe you glanced at the smiling face of a child and realized
anew what an amazing world God has made for us. Maybe you just feel good and thank God for
life in general.
Next, write down two of your Blessings. Writing them down affirms them and, in addition, you
will be able to look back later and relive the joy that you received.
Finally, say a brief prayer of thanksgiving to God for these, and for all your Blessings of the day.
Try this for the next several weeks and see if you don’t get a renewed appreciation for all the ways in which God Blesses you every day of your life.
May God fill all your days with His rich and amazing Blessings!
